Joe Maddon will be the new Chicago Cubs manager, according to Jon Heyman on Twitter:
joe maddon to become cubs manager. story up soon at @CBSSports

Maddon opted out of his contract with the Tampa Bay Rays after unsuccessfully trying to negotiate an extension. The Cubs are currently managed by Rick Renteria, who just completed his first season at the helm, and who was getting positive reviews. However, it sounds like the possibility of hiring Maddon, considered one of the best managers in baseball, was enough to convince the Cubs to part ways with MaddonRenteria.
UPDATE -- Ken Rosenthal says there's no deal in place, "yet":
Sources: Maddon talking to #Cubs as well as other teams. No deal in place with Cubs - yet.
