Texas Rangers prospects: Jake Thompson, the righthanded pitcher who came over to the Rangers organization from the Detroit Tigers in the Joakim Soria trade, has been named the #13 prospect in the Florida State League by Baseball America.
The FSL is a high-A league, and the Rangers' 2014 high-A affiliate (but, sadly, not their 2015 high-A affiliate) was Myrtle Beach of the Carolina League, and thus the prospects the Rangers had all year wouldn't be in this ranking. Thompson, however, pitched in the FSL for the first half of the season while part of the Tigers' organization, and had enough innings to qualify for this list. Thompson's fastball and slider are praised in BA's write-up, and they see him as a potential #3 inning-eating starter down the road.
