Texas Rangers rumors: Yasmany Tomas is no longer on the Rangers' radar, with Evan Grant saying that, per a major league source, the Rangers are no longer involved in the bidding on the 23 year old Cuban outfielder.
Jeff Wilson wrote yesterday that, per sources, the Rangers were "unlikely" to sign Tomas.
Tomas is a Cuban defector who would help the Rangers' fill their hole in left field; however, he's looking for a contract in excess of $100 million, and there are some questions about whether he's major league ready right now, and about whether he really projects as more than a decent major league corner outfielder.
Jon Daniels talked yesterday about the potential of going with a platoon of Ryan Rua and Mitch Moreland in left field, and also mentioned Michael Choice as someone the team hasn't given up on. That could mean the Rangers are focusing on more of a DH option via trade or free agency -- someone like Torii Hunter, perhaps, who could be the Rangers' semi-regular DH while also playing some outfielder every now and again.
