Texas Rangers transactions: The Rangers have activated nine players from the 60 day disabled list, in what is basically a procedural move to restore the players to the 40 man roster.
The nine players in question are Shin-Soo Choo, Yu Darvish, Prince Fielder, Matt Harrison, Mitch Moreland, Alexi Ogando, Martin Perez, Jurickson Profar, and Tanner Scheppers.
The Rangers had cleared three spots on the 40 man roster last week by waiving Ed Lucas, Alfredo Figaro, and Nate Adcock. That left 31 players on the 40 man roster. With the 9 members of the 60 day d.l. now being activated, the Rangers' 40 man roster is back to 40.
At some point in the next few weeks, the Rangers will have to remove at least two players currently on the 40 man roster to make room for Jorge Alfaro and Luke Jackson, in order to protect them from the Rule 5 draft. Those are the only locks to be added to the 40 man roster, but there are additional players, such as Jerad Eickhoff, Odubel Herrera, and Will Lamb, who are candidates to be added, as well, and for each player who is added to the 40 man roster later this month to protect them from the Rule 5 draft, a player will have to be removed from the 40 man roster.
