The Cincinnati Reds have reportedly traded pitcher Mat Latos to the Miami Marlins for Chad Wallach and Anthony DeSclafini, according to folks on Twitter.
Wallach was a 5th rounder from 2013, a catcher who spent 2014 in A ball. DeSclafini is a lefthanded 24 year old pitcher who the Marlins acquired in the big trade that sent Mark Buehrle and Jose Reyes to Toronto.
Meanwhile, Justin Masterson, a free agent pitcher the Rangers had interest in, has reportedly signed with the Red Sox.
While Masterson was an interesting bounceback candidate, Latos was the player I had, for some time, identified as a player the Rangers should have interest in and that would be a quality target. It looks like both of those players are now off the board.
