Matt Harrison injury: Harrison has lower back stiffness, will undergo MRI

This is not good news...Matt Harrison, coming back from two back surgeries and surgery for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome in 2013, will have an MRI today for "lower back stiffness."

USA TODAY Sports

Matt Harrison injury: Texas Ranger pitcher Matt Harrison is dealing with "lower back stiffness," per the beat writers on Twitter, and will undergo an MRI later today.

He will not be participating in any baseball activities for now.

This is potentially devastating news for the Rangers, who are already short-handed in the rotation due to Derek Holland's injury, which is keeping him out for the first half of the season.

If Harrison is not able to go to start the season, the Rangers would pretty much be forced to keep Alexi Ogando in the rotation, and also would be relying on two people out of the group of Colby Lewis, Tommy Hanson, Nick Tepesch, Robbie Ross, and a grab bag of others, such as Jose Contreras, to fill out the rotation.

We will have to wait and see what the MRI shows and what the prognosis is, but this is very, very worrisome.
