Former Texas Ranger managing partner Chuck Greenberg, the man who put together the group that bought the Rangers from Tom Hicks back in 2010, is reportedly heading up a group that is close to purchasing the Frisco Roughriders.
Frisco is the Rangers' AA affiliate. Greenberg already owns the Rangers' high-A affiliate, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.
Greenberg, as you may recall, made himself popular with fans with his accessibility, and even posted on a certain Rangers blog from time to time. Interestingly, although he was forced out, things between Greenberg and the Rangers are positive, according to Drew Davison is the S-T article linked above:
Greenberg, though, has maintained a positive relationship with the Rangers since stepping down.
I got to visit with Greenberg at length a couple of times when he was the Rangers, and found him to be very engaging and a great ambassador for the team, someone who seemed to really care about the fans and the fan experience. Greenberg being involved with the Roughriders would, I suspect, be a plus for Frisco fans.
