Jurickson Profar injury: Profar out 10 weeks with torn shoulder muscle

Jurickson Profar will miss at least the next 10 weeks with a torn right shoulder muscle

Jurickson Profar injury: Texas Rangers second baseman Jurickson Profar will miss the next 10-12 weeks with a torn muscle in his right shoulder, according to Thad Levine.

Profar was slated to be the Rangers' starting second baseman, after the offseason trade of Ian Kinsler, and as the consensus #1 prospect in baseball prior to the 2012 season, was expected to take a significant step forward in establishing himself as a member of the Rangers' core group of young players going forward.

Adam Rosales and Josh Wilson have been battling for the utility infielder job, although neither player is someone you'd really want to count on as an everyday player for an extended stretch.  Minor league second baseman Rougned Odor, who was supposed to start the season in AA, is another possibility, although he is just 20 years old and has only a handful of games above low-A.

In a spring that has seen the Rangers deal with a lot of nagging and minor injuries, it had appeared they were going to duck anything serious.  Unfortunately, that's not the case now, and the Rangers are going to have to scramble to figure out what they are going to do at second base.

If I were to guess, I'd say that Rougned Odor will be at second base on Opening Day.  He's not on the 40 man roster, but the Rangers think very highly of him, and they've not been afraid to throw young players in the deep end in the past.
