Thursday morning Rangers news and links

Jamie Squire

Morning, everyone.  Four days until Opening Day.

Opening Day, when the Rangers' starting pitcher will be Tanner Scheppers, making his first career start.  Jeff Wilson has a story on Scheppers going on Opening Day, and the current state of the Rangers' starting rotation.

Anthony Andro also has a story on Scheppers going on Opening Day, and all the various announcements and roster moves from yesterday.

Evan Grant writes that the rotation the Rangers will roll with to start the season is a credit to the organization's scouting and development groups.

Richard Durrett writes about the various news and announcements from yesterday, including Scheppers going on Opening Day and Nick Martinez making the rotation.

T.R. Sullivan's story on the rotation includes Jon Daniels quotes on Nick Martinez, and Ron Washington saying Scheppers has profiled as a #1 starter.

Grant has a blog post on all the moves and announcements from yesterday.

Scheppers will be the first pitcher to make his first career start on Opening Day since Fernando Valenzuela.

Colby Lewis pitched well yesterday, and the S-T's game story focuses on Lewis's performance, which still wasn't enough to get him a spot in the rotation.

Evan Grant has a game report at the DMN Rangers blog.

Richard Durrett asks, who will the Rangers' second-best pitcher in 2014 be?

Matt Mosley writes that this spring has been terrible, and the Rangers are a couple of injuries away from being behind the M's and Angels as well as the A's.

Durrett thinks the injuries could help Ron Washington not get fired this season.

Grant has a blog post on Pedro Figueroa making the bullpen and Seth Rosin fighting for a spot in the bullpen.

The S-T's notes talk about Nick Martinez making the rotation, Donnie Murphy and Michael Choice being on the 25 man roster, and the battle for the final bullpen spots.

Sullivan has a whole bunch of notes, including stuff on Colby Lewis, Donnie Murphy, Alexi Ogando, Michael Choice, Derek Holland, Seth Rosin, and Pedro Figueroa.

And there's new food gimmicks at TBiA this year.  Anthony Andro is fired up about the "bacon on a stick" that will be offered.

Jim Callis writes about the Rangers' farm system at, and sets out the top 20 prospects in the Ranger system.  Bernie Plesikoff looks at how the Rangers' farm system fits with their current needs, and projects the Rangers' 2016 lineup, although that projection includes Alex Rios in RF, Joey Gallo at DH and no Michael Choice.
