Texas Rangers claim Andy Parrino on waivers: Utility infielder Andy Parrino has been claimed on waivers by the Rangers from the Oakland A's, according to John Blake on Twitter.
To make room for Parrino on the 40 man roster, the Rangers have put Derek Holland on the 60 day disabled list. This is purely a procedural move, as Holland is not expected back until the middle of the season, and should not be interpreted as having anything to do with Holland's timetable for return changing or anything.
Parrino plays all the infield positions and is a switch hitter. He's someone the Rangers can include in the mix for the backup infielder job, and if he doesn't make it, can seek to outright to AAA at the end of the spring.
UPDATE -- Per Scott Lucas, Parrino has an option remaining, so he can be sent to the minors without going through waivers (assuming the Rangers don't need his 40 man roster spot for someone else).
