Cautious optimism for Colby Lewis after his first spring start

Colby Lewis didn't make it out of the first inning today because of a high pitch count, but gave positive reports afterwards regarding his physical health

Colby Lewis only went 2/3rds of an inning today, getting pulled without getting out of the first while throwing 32 pitches, but in talking to the press after his outing, he sounded optimistic about how he felt physically.

Both Evan Grant and Richard Durrett have blog posts up on Colbyashi's outing and his post-game comments, with Lewis saying he felt good physically.  He struggled throwing strikes, apparently due to issues with his release point due to having a longer stride because he has more range of motion in his hip after the surgery from last season.

While Lewis is in camp on a minor league deal, at this point, I'd be surprised if they don't purchase his contract, either so he can start the season in the majors, or so they can put him on the disabled list and give him a few rehab starts at the end of camp to continue working on his release point and getting to where he needs to be.  We still have to see how he bounces back from this outing, but I'd say it will be an upset if Lewis doesn't pitch for the Rangers in 2014.
