Daniel McCutchen called up, Chris Gimenez DFA'd

The Rangers have purchased the contract of pitcher Daniel McCutchen, and have designed catcher Chris Gimenez for assignment

USA TODAY Sports

The Rangers have purchased the contract of righthanded pitcher Daniel McCutchen from AAA Round Rock, per John Blake on Twitter.

To make room for McCutchen on the 25 and 40 man roster, the Rangers have designated catcher Chris Gimenez for assignment.

McCutchen will presumably be in the bullpen, and will be one of those pitchers on the bubble when Colby Lewis and Yu Darvish are ready to return.

Gimenez was claimed on waivers right before the end of spring training, and was apparently kept on the active roster because the Rangers had to wait a certain number of days before designating him for assignment.  Assuming he clears waivers, the Rangers will likely ask Gimenez to accept an outright assignment to AAA, in order to provide the team with more catching depth.
