Happy birthday to Sir Alec Guinness, best known to movie-goers as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the "real" Star Wars movies. Guinness, who passed away in 2000, would have been 100 years old today.
Guinness had quite the life, which you can check out on his Wikipedia page here, but given that my first exposure to him as a child was seeing him on the big screen in his iconic role of Obi-Wan in Star Wars, its hard for me to separate him from that character. I remember as an adult, going to see a release of "The Bridge on the River Kwai" (a great movie, by the way, and one you should check out if you haven't seen it). Guinness won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Colonel Nicholson in the movie, and even though he was 20+ years younger in that film than he was in the Star Wars movies, just hearing that distinctive, stentorian voice made my mind go, "Hey, that's Obi-Wan commanding the British P.O.W.s."
