Kouzmanoff, Jackson, Mendez win awards

Kevin Kouzmanoff has been named A.L. Player of the Week, and Luke Jackson has been named Texas League Pitcher of the Week

The Rangers had a pair of players in their organization get "of the week" awards today.

Kevin Kouzmanoff was named the American League Player of the Week, and Luke Jackson was named Texas League Pitcher of the Week.

Kouzmanoff has been tearing it up in place of injured Ranger third baseman Adrian Beltre, although with Beltre returning when the Rangers go to Seattle later this week, Kouzmanoff will likely be going into a part-time role.  Still, its a nice feather in the cap of a guy who hadn't played in the majors since 2011.

Jackson, meanwhile, had a 6 inning, 0 run performance last week to get the honors, and has sandwiched a pair of shutout performances around an ugly 7 run, 3.1 IP outing for Frisco.

Tepid did a Q&A with LuJack a couple of weeks ago, which you can check out here.  And you should check it out...it is good stuff.

UPDATE -- It has been pointed out that 19 year old lefthander Yohander Mendez was named the Sally League Pitcher of the Week for last week, as well.  Mendez threw 6 shutout innings for Hickory, allowing just 2 hits, 0 walks and striking out 10.  Mendez has allowed just 2 earned runs in 15.1 innings so far this season, striking out 16 batters and walking just one.
