Joey Gallo's Three Bomb Night (Joy To The World)

Joey Gallo's start of the season is insane

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

One of the things I always want to avoid doing is getting too excited over a small sample size for a minor leaguer, even if that small sample size is really good.

And I did a post just last week about how hot Joey Gallo has started the season off, so I normally wouldn't post about Gallo again.

However, he was kind of insane yesterday.  Gallo went 3 for 4 with three walks in last night's 21-6 Myrtle Beach victory over Frederick.  And all three hits were home runs.  Here:

Gallo's slash line is now .359/.458/.891, through 19 games and 83 plate appearances.  And his 21 Ks in 83 plate appearances is a 25% K rate...and that lowered K rate is perhaps the most encouraging part of Gallo's early season success.  The biggest red flag about his 2013 season was his 37% K rate at Hickory.  A 37% K rate isn't going to cut it.  A 25% K rate, though, is viable...

One other thing that shouldn't be overlooked...Gallo was the 8th youngest player in the Carolina League at the start of the 2014 season.  Gallo is putting up video game numbers as one of the youngest guys there.

The hot start has, of course, resulted in a few fans calling for the Rangers to bring him up now.  That's silliness.  Gallo is probably at least a couple of years away.  If he continues to mash, he'll likely get a promotion at some point this year to AA Frisco, and he'll have to make adjustments to the more advanced pitchers there.

But that doesn't mean we can't get excited about what Gallo has done so far this year, and what the future may hold for him...
