Saturday a.m. Rangers things

Saturday morning Rangers news and links

Otto Greule Jr

Happy Saturday, everyone.

Jeff Wilson's game story talks about Justin Smoak's diving catch to end yesterday's game and take away what appeared to be a go-ahead RBI hit from Adrian Beltre.

Elvis Andrus is quoted in T.R. Sullivan's game story as saying he thought that Beltre shot was going to clear the bases in the 9th inning.

Evan Grant's game story talks about the struggles of Neal Cotts.

Regarding Cotts, Ron Washington says, "I've got to keep going to him."

Gerry Fraley says the Rangers are fortunate that they didn't sign Matt Purke, because Purke has been bad this year.  Of course, its an open question about whether Purke, who dealt with shoulder problems at TCU, would be healthier if he'd been pitching in the pros out of high school.  It also ignores that the compensatory pick the Rangers got for not signing Purke was used on Jake Skole, who is a fringe prospect at best right now.

Richard Durrett has a stock report for the Rangers, with Martin Perez shooting up.

Although Shin-Soo Choo didn't play yesterday, he reported improvement, and likely will avoid the d.l.

Kevin Kouzmanoff, on the other hand, could need back surgery.

Evan Grant has a blog post with quotes from Jon Daniels on Kouzmanoff going to the d.l.

Durrett writes that Luke Jackson is impressing folks with his early season performance.

MLB has fixed the transfer rule that caused so much controversy this season, and Evan Grant has two other suggested "tweaks" to the replay rules.

Sullivan's notes talk about Beltre, Kouzmanoff, Choo, Nick Martinez, and the transfer rule.
