Connor Sadzeck and Nick McBride, righthanded pitchers in the Rangers minor league system, both have undergone Tommy John surgery this spring, per Evan Grant, and will miss the 2014 season.
Sadzeck, 22, was an 11th round draft pick in the 2011 draft, and had generated a fair amount of buzz as someone who was primed to take a big step forward in 2014 after putting up a 2.25 ERA in 132 innings in low-A Hickory last year.
McBride, who turns 23 next month, was a 5th round pick in the 2009 draft who split the 2013 season between Myrtle Beach, Frisco and Round Rock, putting up a 5.26 ERA in 113 innings on the year.
The loss of Sadzeck is a particular blow...he is an under-the-radar guy who was expected to be part of either the Myrtle Beach or Frisco rotations this year. Hopefully, he will be able to come back in 2015 stronger than ever.
