Adrian Beltre injury: Texas Ranger third baseman Adrian Beltre left today's game between the Rangers and the Red Sox due to tightness in his left quadriceps muscle.
Beltre, who has dealt with issues with his leg muscles throughout his time in Texas, was the team's DH tonight. The Rangers were up 9-1 when Beltre was removed from the game, so the move could simply be precautionary.
It doesn't sound like the problem is serious, but Beltre could end up getting tomorrow's game against the Red Sox off, with an off day on Thursday.
UPDATE -- Beltre is returning to Texas prior to tomorrow's finale in Boston to have his quad examined by Dr. Keith Meister. So this could be a bigger issue than we previously thought, although the Rangers were returning to Texas after tomorrow's game anyway.
Still, this has to give rise to a concern that Beltre could miss at least a few games. If Beltre is going to miss time, but not have to go on the d.l., the Rangers would have to consider sending down Jim Adduci (who has options) and either bringing up Andy Parrino, who is on the 40 man roster already, or purchasing the contract of Kevin Kouzmanoff, who would have to be added to the 40 man roster.
If Beltre is going to need a trip to the disabled list, Kouzmanoff would almost certainly be called up.
