Josh Hamilton tore a ligament in his thumb when diving head first into first base yesterday, and as a result, is going to need surgery. He's expected to miss 6-8 weeks.
This is just the latest injury for the injury-prone Hamilton, who, three years ago, missed time because of a broken bone suffered diving towards home plate.
Hamilton was off to a red-hot start for the last place Angels, putting up a .444/.545/.741 slash line in 33 plate appearances. The only other Angel starters with an OPS over 700 are Mike Trout (952) and Albert Pujols (723).
