Martin Perez injury update: an MRI on the elbow of Texas Ranger lefthanded pitcher Martin Perez showed elbow inflammation, per the beat writers on Twitter.
That's sort of good news. While no elbow problem is ever good, if the MRI showed inflammation, but no structural damage, that would seem to indicate that the problem isn't serious. Perez reportedly is hoping to avoid a d.l. stint, but the writers are saying that, if a d.l. stint is needed, it should be a short one.
Nick Tepesch is going to come up on Wednesday and start against the Houston Astros, and the Rangers will either d.l. Perez at that point, or keep him on the active roster and drop someone from the bullpen to make room for Tepesch. If Perez is put on the disabled list, he would be eligible to return on May 26 -- two weeks from tomorrow. Hopefully, if he does go on the disabled list, we'd be looking at a May 26 return.
