Texas Rangers transactions: The Rangers have officially activated Nick Tepesch for his start today against the Houston Astros, and have also purchased the contract of Scott Baker from AAA Round Rock.
To make room for Tepesch on the 25 man roster, the Rangers have put pitcher Martin Perez on the 15 day disabled list. To make room for Baker on the 25 and 40 man rosters, the Rangers have designated Justin Germano for assignment.
Baker was designated for assignment on May 8, when the Rangers needed a fresh arm in the bullpen after Baker threw 5.1 innings on May 7. Baker was replaced at that time by Germano. Germano, having been used for a bunch of pitches yesterday, is now being dropped for Baker, with the Rangers needing another fresh arm in the pen.
Perez, meanwhile, was expected to go on the disabled list after an MRI showed significant inflammation in his left elbow after his last start. The hope is that Perez will not miss a bunch of time, as there was no sign of structural damage from that MRI.
Tepesch will start today, and could stay in the rotation beyond that time, or could be sent back to AAA on Friday so that the Rangers can add another bench player. Texas currently is using a 3 man bench.
