Coming into the game I was worried that Colby Lewis was a prime candidate to give up some runs to a potent dong-happy Angels' offense. Instead, he continued to impress in his return to the majors with his best start yet (5.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 6 K, 0 HR).

All it took for the Rangers to get back to winning was not playing the Oakland A's. With a win over the Angels, the Rangers picked up a game on the A's. Since Boston did to Oakland what the Rangers couldn't this week -- namely, beat them, the Rangers are now only 2 games back of the A's in the West.

Friendly reminder: Tomorrow's game begins at 8:05pm CDT.

Player of the Game: The knock on Shin-Soo Choo in free agency was concern over his ability to hit against left-handers. So far this year he's doing his best work at the plate against southpaws. Tonight, against the Halo lefty Hector Santiago, Choo went 3-4 with a HR and 2 RBIs.

However, because it's the 2014 Rangers, the best Ranger player left the game with an injury.
