Kela was the #16 prospect in the LSB Community Prospect Rankings this past offseason, and you can read the write-up I did on him here.
Kela, who turned 21 last month, is a hard thrower who generated a lot of buzz late last season and in the offseason. In 8 outings for Myrtle Beach, Kela threw 10.1 innings, striking out 13, walking 4 and putting up a 2.61 ERA. He is someone you could see move quickly through the minor league ranks, and he's someone to keep an eye on in Frisco.
UPDATE -- Well, I may have buried the lede here, as Kela is moving to AA Frisco to replace righthanded reliever Matt West, who is moving from Frisco to AAA Round Rock.
West was a second round pick as a shortstop out of Bellaire High School in 2007, moved to third base, never hit, then tried pitching in 2011. He had electric stuff out of the pen, striking out 35 batters and walking just 1 in the Northwest League in 2011, but then missed most of 2012 and 2013 after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
West has a 0.68 ERA in 13.1 innings for Frisco this year, striking out 10, walking 2 and allowing 7 hits, including a homer. West is on the 40 man roster and has a live arm, and he's someone who we could see in Texas if he performs in Round Rock.
