Sunday morning Rangers news and links

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

Happy Father's Day, everybody.

I fell asleep last night with the bases loaded and Neal Cotts on the mound, trying to get out of a jam.  It was a nice surprise to wake up and see the Rangers won.

T.R. Sullivan's game story talks about the Rangers pulling out a win in the top of the 9th for the second game in a row.

Jeff Wilson's game story has praise for Leonys Martin, Joe Saunders and Nick Cotts for their work in yesterday's game.

Gerry Fraley's game story talks about Leonys bailing out the bullpen, and says that Ron Washington "may have to rethink Sardinas' fitness for shortstop" because Sardinas has made three errors there in 23 chances.  Personally, I wouldn't think that warrants Wash re-thinking whether Sardinas should get any game time at shortstop, but that's just me...

Joakim Soria got the save last night, and Wilson writes that Soria has been the one constant in the pen for Texas this year.

Wilson writes that Leonys Martin and Michael Choice have been leading off for Texas because the Rangers don't have any real good options for the leadoff spot.

The S-T has a piece on the recently promoted to AA Chi Chi Gonzalez, with quotes from Chi Chi about a variety of things, including his incorporating a changeup into his repertoire at the organization's insistence.

There's also a piece in the S-T on the relationship between Michael Choice and his father, and how baseball was one of the bonds they developed.

Sullivan's notes talk about Leonys Martin leading off, Shawn Tolleson's bullpen role, and the Rangers signing draft picks.  He makes reference to the Rangers having a deal with fifth round pick "Wes Chamberlain," but Wes Chamberlain is an outfielder from the early-90s...the pitcher the Rangers took in the fifth round is Wes Benjamin.
