Texas Rangers minor league reliever Cory Burns has been claimed on waivers by the Tampa Bay Rays, per MLB Trade Rumors on Twitter.
Burns, 26, was acquired by the Rangers from the San Diego Padres in the 2012-13 offseason in exchange for Wilfredo Boscan. He appeared in 10 games for Texas last season, putting up a 3.18 ERA, but has struggled mightily this year, registering a 7.44 ERA in 32.2 innings for AAA Round Rock.
The Rangers needed to clear a 40 man roster spot to make room for Adam Rosales on the roster. With Burns being claimed, this opens up a spot, and with Rosales replacing Burns on the 40 man roster, the 40 man roster remains full.
