Last night, after another bad Alexi Ogando outing, we talked about whether the Rangers needed to make a move with Ogando, and whether they needed to look at sending him down or putting him on the disabled list.
Well, apparently that decision has been made.
John Blake just tweeted that the Rangers have placed righthanded reliever Alexi Ogando on the disabled list with elbow inflammation, and have recalled lefthanded reliever Aaron Poreda from AAA.
Poreda was the odd man out of the bullpen when the Rangers activated Joe Saunders from the d.l. about a week ago, as Robbie Ross going back to the bullpen meant that the Rangers now had Ross, Poreda and Neal Cotts as lefties out there, and Texas has usually gone with just a two-lefty bullpen.
While Poreda is back up, his stay in the majors could be short, as it sounds like Tanner Scheppers is close to being activated from the disabled list.
We shall wait and see about how serious the Ogando injury issue is -- whether it is a minor thing that gives the Rangers an excuse to sit him down and let him work on a rehab assignment in the minors, or whether it was the cause of the recent problems he's been having.
