And the hits just keep on coming...
First baseman Mitch Moreland will undergo "ankle reconstruction surgery" and be out an "extended period of time," per John Blake on Twitter. Jon Daniels says it is expected to be three months, which means, for all intents and purposes, he's done for the year.
While Moreland hasn't been good this season, he's also the only real first baseman the Rangers have in the majors, or in the upper level of the minors.
There is no move today, so the Rangers will just be playing short-handed today. I assume Jim Adduci will be activated on Monday from the disabled list, and he and Donnie Murphy will platoon at first base for the time being. Or at least, I did assume that, before reading just now that Adduci jammed the finger he had surgery on sliding into a base last night, and had to go see the doctor.
So who knows what's going to happen.
