Friday morning Rangers news and links

Rob Carr

Woo-hoo!  Are you ready for some Rangers baseball?

Jeff Wilson writes about the dilemma the Rangers are in, where they are seeking improvement from the inexperienced players on their roster, most of whom aren't top prospects, while they top prospects remain in the minors and are generally at least a year or two away.

Geovany Soto and J.P. Arencibia are back on the active roster, giving the Rangers four catchers, while Carlos Pena has been DFA'd.

Gerry Fraley has a story on the team's defense being a weakness this season.

According to the story on Derek Holland at the Rangers website, Holland might already be back and pitching in the major leagues if the Rangers were playoff contenders right now, but the team being in last place has them being more conservative with him.

Buster Olney has a podcast up that includes a conversation with T.R. Sullivan, who says that the Rangers are looking for a return on Joakim Soria similar to what they got for Ugueth Urbina about a decade ago (when they got Adrian Gonzalez, Will Smith and Ryan Snare), but thinks Alex Rios is unlikely to be dealt because the Rangers intend to compete next year and don't have a better option in the outfield.

Kate Morrison takes a look at each of the All Stars from the Rangers' A ball teams this year.

The S-T's notes talk about the catchers, J.P. Arencibia believing he's straightened some things out during his stint in AAA, Nick Martinez, and Jim Adduci.
