Texas Rangers rumors: Joakim Soria is being traded to the Detroit Tigers, per a report from a Michigan writer/radio guy on Twitter:
Per a source, #Tigers set to acquire #Rangers right handed closer Joakim Soria. Corey Knebel & Jake Thompson head to Texas in the deal.

And as I was typing this, it was confirmed by Jon Paul Morosi:
Tigers and Rangers have trade agreement in place: Joakim Soria for Jake Thompson and Corey Knebel, source confirms @KyleBogie report.

I will continue updating as we get more info.
If you recall, five days ago, I wrote about the possibility of Soria going to the Tigers, specifically identifying Knebel, Thompson, and starter Robbie Ray as likely targets, speculating that the Rangers would probably want two of the three for Soria. As it turns out, that's what happened.
Knebel was the Tigers' first round draft pick in 2013, a righthanded reliever out of the University of Texas who, I'm guessing, will immediately join the Rangers bullpen. He profiles as a potential late inning reliever, a possible future closer.
Thompson is a big (6'4", 235 lb.) 20 year old righthander who was the Tigers' 2nd round pick in 2012. He started the season in high-A, and has made one start in AA for the Tigers.
This is an impressive haul for the Rangers, who get two recent high draft picks from the Tigers, guys who were among their top prospects at this point.
I will have a more thorough write-up of these two players coming to Texas later.
