The Joakim Soria trade: as you no doubt know by now, the Rangers have traded Joakim Soria to the Detroit Tigers for minor league pitchers Corey Knebel and Jake Thompson.
Soria is a terrific closer, who was under team control for a reasonable club option for 2015. Knebel is a 2013 supplemental first round pick who has already pitched in the majors, and whose ceiling is projected to be an impact setup man or a closer. Thompson is a 20 year old starting pitcher who just was promoted to AA about a week ago, and whose projected ceiling is as a mid-rotation starter.
