The Texas Rangers have purchased the contract of righthanded pitcher Jerome Williams, adding him to the 25 man roster and the 40 man roster so that he could make tonight's start for the Rangers.
To make room for Williams on the 25 man roster, the Rangers have put Jake Smolinski on the 15 day disabled list with a bruised foot. To make room for Williams on the 40 man roster, the Rangers have released minor league pitcher Justin Marks.
Williams seems likely to be designated for assignment tomorrow, particularly given that the Rangers are now down to a three man bench (Dan Robertson, Chris Gimenez, Adam Rosales) with Smolinski going on the d.l.
In addition, the Rangers have activated pitcher Joe Ortiz from the 60 day disabled list and optioned him to the minors. To make room for Ortiz on the 40 man roster, the Rangers have moved Kevin Kouzmanoff to the 60 day d.l.
