Andrew Faulkner, the Texas Rangers minor league pitcher who has had a breakout season for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, has been promoted to the AA Frisco Roughriders.
Faulkner, who turns 22 in September, was a 14th round draft pick out of a South Carolina high school in 2011. Faulkner spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons in Hickory, and wasn't really on our radar before this season. However, the lefty has dominated the Carolina League this year, putting up a 2.07 ERA in 104.1 IP with 100 Ks against just 31 walks, while allowing just a single homer.
Faulkner features a low-90s fastball and a splitter, and will now get a chance to show what he can do against AA hitters for the final month of the season. You can check out a lot of details about Faulkner, including charts, video, and pitch data, here.
Faulkner was ranked #18 on our LSB Mid-Season Community Prospect Rankings. Sam Wolff, who has been activated from the disabled list and is replacing Faulkner in the Pelican rotation, ranked #23.
