MLB trade rumors: Detroit Tigers get David Price, according to Ken Rosenthal on Twitter.
This is pretty astonishing to me because I didn't think the Tigers had the pieces to do a David Price deal, especially after sending Jake Thompson and Corey Knebel to the Rangers in the Joakim Soria deal. The Rays are getting major leaguers back as part of the deal, and it is reportedly a three-team deal, so maybe Drew Smyly or Nick Castellanos is involved.
This is a pretty major move that allows the Tigers to put Price and Justin Verlander in the front of their rotation for the playoffs.
If the Rangers were going to be terrible and out of the mix for a playoff spot in a season, this appears to be the one you'd want to sit out.
UPDATE -- Austin Jackson is going to the Mariners in this deal, and Nick Franklin is going to the Rays.
UPDATE II -- Drew Smyly goes to Tampa.
