Derek Holland injury update: Texas Rangers lefthanded pitcher Derek Holland will go out on a rehab assignment on July 23 with the Round Rock Express, per Evan Grant.
Holland will throw two innings then, and then work up from there, potentially being an option to return to the rotation in mid-August. Grant says that he would not be a "realistic option" for the major league rotation until August 10.
Holland underwent microfracture surgery in January after injuring his knee falling on stairs in January, the first of what has been a cavalcade of injuries that have wrecked the Rangers season. The important thing at this point, I think, is for Holland to get back on the mound and show that he's going to be able to be relied upon for the 2015 season.
