Texas Rangers transactions: Phil Klein, a 25 year old righthanded reliever who has a 0.52 ERA in 51.2 IP split between AA and AAA this year, has been added to the 25 man and 40 man rosters, per John Blake on Twitter.
To make room for Klein, the Rangers have designated Ryan Feierabend for assignment.
Feierabend has been pretty much a placeholder in the bullpen, and Klein is someone who was expected to see Arlington this year, so this isn't a surprise. When news started circulating that Klein was likely coming up today, TepidParticipation did a write-up on Klein which is well worth your time, and which you can read here.
Klein was going to be Rule 5 eligible after the season, so he was going to be added to the 40 man roster at some point one way or the other. This gives the Rangers a chance to get a closer look at one of their most impressive minor league performers this year, and get a sense as to whether he's someone they might be able to rely on in the major league bullpen in 2015.
