Texas Rangers pitcher Jerome Williams, who was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Friday to make room on the 25 man roster for Geovany Soto, has been claimed on waivers by the Philadelphia Phillies.
Williams made two starts of the Rangers, one good and one awful. He ended up with a 9.90 ERA in 10 innings, allowing 18 hits, walking three and striking out six during his stint with Texas. Williams was signed originally by the Rangers to a minor league deal as a free agent after he had been released by the Astros, for whom he had pitched 28 games in relief.
