The Rangers made a couple of promotions in the minor league ranks today, with outfielder Nick Williams moving from high-A Myrtle Beach to AA Frisco, and outfielder Ryan Cordell going from low-A Hickory to high-A Myrtle Beach.
Williams, who turns 21 next month, is a Galveston Ball product who was a 2nd round pick of the Rangers in the 2012 draft, and who was ranked #97 in the Baseball America top 100 prospect rankings coming into the season. Williams has posted a .292/.343/.491 line in 408 plate appearances for the Pelicans this year, albeit with a 117/19 K/BB ratio.
Cordell, 22, was an 11th round draft pick out of Liberty University in 2013. He's had an excellent campaign for Hickory, putting up a .321/.388/.504 line in 310 plate appearances.
