Texas Rangers middle infield prospects Josh Morgan and Yeyson Yrizarri both made the Baseball America top 20 prospect list for the Arizona Rookie League, checking in at #19 and #20, respectively.
Morgan was the Rangers' 3rd round pick in the 2014 draft, and earned a promotion to short-season A Spokane late in the year. He's more of an instincts/polish player than a toolsy guy, but he gets good marks for his makeup and approach at the plate, as reflected in his .336/.468/.372 slash line in 141 plate appearances in the AZL, with a 19/13 BB/K ratio. Morgan is playing all three infield positions now, and could end up at either shortstop or second base.
Yrizarri is a 17 year old who was part of the Rangers' enormous international J-2 haul last year. He's a true shortstop, and more potential and tools than Morgan is. Yrizarri's .237/.275/.332 line is obviously much less impressive than Morgan's, but there's more upside with Yrizarri, as well as more bust potential.
