Jacob Nix, unsigned fifth round draft pick of the Houston Astros in the 2014 draft, has enrolled in the IMG Academy's post-graduate program, according to the IMG Academy's website.
Nix, a righthanded pitcher and UCLA commit, had reportedly agreed to a $1.5 million bonus with the Astros last summer; however, that money was available in the Astros' draft pool only if the Astros inked #1 overall pick Brady Aiken to a below-slot deal. Aiken's deal with the Astros fell apart after a physical revealed a ligament issue that resulted in Houston reducing their offer to Aiken. Because not signing Aiken meant not having money in the pool available to honor the commitment to Nix without forfeiting future #1 picks, the Astros didn't sign Nix, either.
The Astros reached a settlement with Nix last month, and before now, it was unclear where Nix would be this spring.
Nix will be eligible for the 2015 draft.
