Righthanded reliever Matt West, who was designated for assignment by the Rangers last week to make room on the 40 man roster for Adam Rosales, has been claimed on waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Coincidentally enough, to make room on their 40 man roster for West, the Blue Jays designated righthanded reliever Cory Burns for assignment.  Burns is a former Ranger pitcher who had been acquired from the San Diego Padres for Wilfredo Boscan a couple of offseasons ago.

West, 26, was a second round draft pick of the Rangers in the 2007 draft.  Originally drafted as a third baseman, West converted to the mound in 2011, but missed most of 2012 and 2013 due to Tommy John surgery.  West had a brief stint in the majors in 2014, but his stuff still wasn't back to where it was pre-injury, and he was not one of the players who was promoted in September when rosters expanded.

Toronto will, more likely than not, end up waiving West later this offseason, and try to slide him through waivers and outright him.
