Rangers Acquire Carlos Corporan

The Texas Rangers have acquired catcher Carlos Corporan from the Houston Astros

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Yesterday evening it was announced that the Astros were DFA'ing catcher Carlos Corporan and immediately the Rangers were linked as needing a secondary catcher to join Robinson Chirinos.

Today Evan Drelich of the Houston Chronicle has tweeted that the Rangers have traded for Carlos but the players have yet to be informed of the deal so no word on what Texas is sending to Houston in return at this time.

Adam wrote a post last night pointing out:

"While Rasmus is someone I'd speculated could be a potential fit for the Rangers, Corporan is someone who has been rumored to be of actual interest to the Rangers. Texas is seeking a veteran backup for starting catcher Robinson Chirinos, and Corporan, 31, would seem to be a good fit. Adding Corporan would allow Texas to keep Tomas Telis and Chris Gimenez in AAA as depth.

The switch-hitting Corporan is a career .226/.286/.350 hitter, although since his 506 OPS season in 2011, he has hit a respectable (for a catcher) .237/.297/.383 in 485 plate appearances."

Also of note, Corporan has been ranked as an above average pitch framer every year since 2011 by Stat Corner.

UPDATE: Per Jeff Wilson the Rangers are sending Akeem Bostick to the Astros for Corporan.
