20 days until pitchers and catchers report to spring training for the Texas Rangers.
Jake Smolinski had a 903 OPS last season for the Rangers. It was only 92 plate appearances, but still, that's pretty good. Smolinski was 6th on the team in fWAR in 2014 among position players. That says a lot about the 2014 Rangers.
Smolinski will be battling Ryan Rua and Michael Choice for the regular -- or at least semi-regular -- left field job in 2015. My guess is that Rua ends up winning the job, with Smolinski in AAA as depth. Who knows...maybe the 2007 2nd round draft pick of the Washington Nationals is a late bloomer, and the offensive improvement he showed last season in both the minors and the majors will carry over to 2015.
