Sad news on the D/FW sports scene, as Roy Tarpley, former Dallas Maverick power forward/center, has died of liver failure, per reports.  Tarpley was 50.

Tarpley was the Mavericks' first round draft pick in the 1986 draft, and in his second year in the league, had turned into a dominant force who won the Sixth Man of the Year Award and helped get the Mavericks to the NBA Western Conference Finals.  Sadly, his career was derailed after that due to substance abuse issues, and he never came close to fulfilling his potential.
