Scott Servais, the assistant general manager for the Angels who was in the Rangers' front office until the 2011-12 offseason, is the "strong front-runner" for the vacant managerial job with the Seattle Mariners, according to Ken Rosenthal.

Current M's g.m. Jerry DiPoto was the general manager for the Angels until he quit/was fired earlier this year, and Servais was hired with the Angels by Anaheim.

Servais was part of the Rangers' "inner circle" from the World Series teams that also included Thad Levine, A.J. Preller and Don Welke, the key advisers to g.m. Jon Daniels.

The M's fired their general manager, Jack Zduriencik, towards the end of the 2015 season, and new g.m. DiPoto fired the incumbent manager, Lloyd McClendon, after the season.
