The Texas Rangers have set their roster for the American League Division Series against the Toronto Blue Jays. Here's how it looks:
PITCHERS (11): Jake Diekman, Sam Dyson, Yovani Gallardo, Chi Chi Gonzalez, Cole Hamels, Derek Holland, Keone Kela, Colby Lewis, Ross Ohlendorf, Martin Perez, Shawn Tolleson.
CATCHERS (2): Robinson Chirinos, Chris Giminez.
INFIELDERS (7): Hanser Alberto, Elvis Andrus, Adrian Beltre, Prince Fielder, Mitch Moreland, Mike Napoli, Rougned Odor.
OUTFIELDERS (5): Shin-Soo Choo, Delino DeShields, Josh Hamilton, Drew Stubbs, Will Venable.
Perhaps the most noticeable thing at first glance is the absence of a second left-handed reliever in the bullpen. The Rangers are going with Jake Diekman from the left side which is no surprise but they've left Sam Freeman and/or Andrew Faulkner off the roster. The second left-hander very well may end up being Martin Perez if they decide to go with Colby Lewis and Derek Holland when the games return to Arlington.
Considering the fact that the Blue Jays demolish lefty pitching, it could just be that the Rangers decided that an extra outfielder was more valuable. And so, both Drew Stubbs and Will Venable are on the roster.
Also of note, Chi Chi Gonzalez made the roster over Anthony Bass and Nick Martinez as the long man in the 'pen. Kudos to the rookie.
So, what do you think? Will these 25 men take the Rangers to the ALCS?
