Over the past week, I participated in a Sim Offseason, working as the g.m. of the Texas Rangers. You can see the entire offseason here. Looking at just my moves:
Non-tendered Kyle Blanks, Carlos Corporan, Anthony Bass, Bobby Wilson
Acquired Austin Hedges from San Diego for Prince Fielder, Jurickson Profar, Tony Watson, and $10 million ($2 mill per year for five years)
Acquired Ian Kinsler from Detroit for Shin-Soo Choo, Rougned Odor and $10M in 2019 and 2020
Acquired Nelson Cruz from Seattle for Derek Holland, Ryan Cordell and Leonys Martin
Acquired C.J. Wilson and $10 million from the LA Angels for Ti’Quan Forbes
Acquired Andres Blanco from Philadelphia for Lisalverto Bonilla
Acquired Tony Watson from Pittsburgh for Drew Robinson and Jose Leclerc
Signed Mike Napoli to a 2 year $12 million deal
Signed Cliff Lee to one year $5 million deal
Signed Colby Lewis to a 1 year $5 million deal
Signed David Murphy and Neftali Feliz to minor league deals
Recommended Budget: $156 million
Final Payroll: $140.8 million
As you can see, I largely succeeded in my goal to recreate the 2010-11 Texas Rangers, while staying within my budgetary constraints. I didn't want to move Derek Holland, who, of course, was part of the 2010-11 Rangers, and in retrospect, I wish I'd found another way to bring Nelson Cruz back.
