The Rangers are reportedly talking to Boston about pitchers Joe Kelly and Wade Miley

Rangers trade rumors:  Joe Kelly and Wade Miley of the Boston Red Sox are available, and T.R. Sullivan tweets that the Rangers are talking to Boston as part of their ongoing pursuit for starting pitching depth.  Sullivan had tweetedearlier that Kelly is "of interest" to the Rangers, while also identifying Rays starter Drew Smyly as a possible target.  Nick Cafardo, meanwhile, describes Texas as "very interested" in Kelly.

All three pitchers would seem to be considered "buy low" candidates.  The Rangers had interest in Miley, a 29 year old lefthander, last offseason, before he was sent to Arizona in exchange for Rubby De La Rosa, Allen Webster and Raymel Flores.  Miley had a 4.46 ERA with Boston in 193.2 IP, good for a 96 ERA+, albeit with a 3.81 FIP.  Miley is under contract for $6.167M in 2017 and $8.917M in 2017, with a $12M team option in 2018.

Joe Kelly, meanwhile, is a 27 year old righthander who was sent by the Cardinals to Boston, along with Allen Craig, for John Lackey during the 2014 season.  Kelly struggled early on, and even got demoted at one point, but finished the year strong...despite having a 6.11 ERA after 17 starts, Kelly put up a 2.35 ERA in his final 8 starts, ending the year with a 4.82 ERA and a 4.18 FIP in 134.1 IP.

Kelly is arbitration-eligible, and there's some question as to whether he's a better fit in the rotation or as a reliever.

Drew Smyly, meanwhile, came over to Tampa in 2014 from Detroit as part of the David Price trade, and missed the bulk of the 2015 season with shoulder issues.  The 26 year old lefty had a 3.11 ERA last year in 66.2 IP, and has a career 3.24 ERA.  The question with Smyly is health, and whether his shoulder issues will continue to cause him problems going forward.
