Ken Rosenthal reports that Wade Miley has been traded from Boston to Seattle

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Wade Miley has been traded to the Seattle Mariners by the Boston Red Sox, according to Ken Rosenthal on Twitter.

Jon Heyman says that it is Wade Miley and Jonathan Aro to Seattle for Carson Smith and Roenis Elias.

Smith had a solid 2015 campaign for the M's, putting up a 2.31 ERA in 70 IP with 92 Ks against just 22 walks in 70 IP.  Elias is a 25 year old lefty starter who has a 3.97 ERA and 4.23 FIP in 279 IP over 51 games (49 starts) the past two seasons.

Aro is a 25 year old righthander who had a 6.97 ERA in 6 relief appearances with Boston last year, and a 3.04 ERA in 74 IP between AA and AAA.

We had mentioned earlier today that the Rangers had been discussing the possibility of a trade with the Red Sox, and Miley was someone whose name was out there as someone who could be targeted.  The Rangers reportedly had more interest in pitcher Joe Kelly; however, with Miley now departing Boston, the Red Sox would seem to be more inclined to hang on to Kelly.

Boston also seems to have gotten a pretty decent return for Miley...Smith is a nice relief arm, and Elias is a serviceable depth guy for the rotation.  Aro is just a throw-in, it seems to me.  Not sure that this is that great a move for Seattle.
