Josh Hamilton is meeting with MLB over what is described as a "disciplinary issue," and according to the Los Angeles Times, the Angels are "bracing for possible penalties."
Angels g.m. Jerry DiPoto is quoted in the above as saying that Hamilton is meeting with league officials in New York, and that he has "no other information to offer," though multiple reports are indicating that the meeting is disciplinary in nature.
Hamilton, of course, has a well-chronicled history of substance abuse. It remains to be seen whether the disciplinary issue has to do with a relapse, or with something else.
Hamilton left the Rangers for a 5 year, $125 million deal with the Angels after the 2012 season. The Angels owe Hamilton $23 million for 2015, and $30 million in 2016 and 2017.
UPDATE -- Uh oh.
Asked a baseball executive if Hamilton’s discipline was for PEDs. His response: “Worse.” The executive declined to elaborate.— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) February 25, 2015
