Texas Rangers rumors: Jurickson Profar for Dillon Gee? No way on earth

There is a Jurickson Profar for Dillon Gee trade rumor out there that makes no sense

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Texas Rangers rumors:  Jurickson Profar for Dillon Gee and other pieces?  That's a rumor that is apparently floating around out there.  Its also one of the more nonsensical rumors I can remember reading in quite a while.

The Mets have extra pitching, and reportedly were shopping Gee during the offseason.  At one point, I thought that Gee would be a potential fit for the Rangers.

But that was before the Rangers traded for Ross Detwiler and Yovani Gallardo.  At this point, if everyone in the rotation is healthy, the Rangers have their front four starters locked in with Yu Darvish, Derek Holland, Yovani Gallardo, and Colby Lewis.

Then, at the #5 spot, the Rangers have Detwiler, Anthony Ranaudo, Nick Tepesch, Nick Martinez, and Lisalverto Bonilla battling for the job, with Chi Chi Gonzalez considered to be on the fast track to the majors, and Martin Perez looking impressive early in his return from Tommy John surgery.

Given all that, how does it make any sense for the Rangers to trade Profar for Gee -- a guy who turns 29 in April and who will make $5.3 million in 2015?  Even if there are other parts involved, I can't see why the Rangers would be interested in taking on Gee and his salary, given the other rotation options they have available.

Even given Profar's uncertain status, this is something that seems completely bizarre and unfeasible.  Its the type of deal a Mets fan calling WFAN at 2 a.m. would propose.
